About Me

My name is Kat (Ecaterina Botezatu, b. 1999). I’m a visual artist and tattooist from the Republic of Moldova, currently based in Iceland, where I’ve lived since 2019.
I studied at the College of Fine Arts in Chișinău, focusing on human figures, still lifes, and portraiture. This classical fine art background continues to shape my work today, influencing both my paintings and tattooing through a balance of precision and emotion.
Nature is at the core of my artistic practice. Living in Iceland, I’m constantly surrounded by powerful landscapes — mountains, storms, snow, and the relentless movement of the ocean. Here, I witness daily the fragile balance between nature’s vulnerability and its overwhelming strength. This contrast deeply inspires my work.
Alongside landscapes, I love painting people. Portraits and figurative motifs appear frequently in my work, allowing me to explore emotion, presence, and the connection between inner and outer worlds. Often, I blend the human figure with natural environments, using figurative elements as a way to reflect our place within nature rather than apart from it.
My style is realistic, with a strong focus on texture, detail, and depth. I work primarily with oil paints, building each piece gradually — starting with broad shapes and colors, then layering finer details to breathe life into the painting. Recently, I’ve also been creating pet portraits, which I find deeply meaningful and joyful, capturing not only likeness but the unique spirit of each animal.
Art has been my lifelong passion. Through my work, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for both the beauty of nature and the emotional bonds we share with people and animals alike. Ultimately, my aim is to remind viewers that the Earth is not merely a resource, but a living entity deserving of respect, care, and compassion.
A big part of my life is also dedicated to tattooing. I create art not only on canvas, but on skin — leaving a permanent mark, a shared moment, and a piece of my artistic language carried forever on someone’s body.
