Hope

“Hope” is an original oil painting on wood 40x50cm that portrays a powerful moment of quiet resilience in the middle of a storm. An old man sits alone in a small wooden boat, surrounded by large waves and dark, restless clouds. The sea is wild and uncertain, yet he remains still, looking upward as light begins to break through the sky.

I often choose to paint older people because I feel they carry a lifetime of experiences within them. Their faces and expressions suggest stories, struggles, and wisdom gathered over many years. In this painting, the old man represents someone who has lived through many moments in life — both calm and stormy.

The storm around him reflects the difficult periods we all face at times. There are moments when life feels overwhelming and uncertain, when the only thing we truly have left is hope. Despite the darkness in the sky and the strength of the waves, a small opening of light breaks through the clouds and gently illuminates his face. That light symbolizes the quiet belief that things can still improve, even in the hardest moments.
