Seaside Rest

Oil on Wood

40 × 30 cm

Seaside Rest is inspired by a journey to the westernmost part of Iceland, and Europe, where I travelled over 1,000 kilometres in the hope of seeing Atlantic puffins in their natural habitat. There was no guarantee they would be there, so the trip was a leap of faith. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to witness these remarkable birds and capture reference photographs that later inspired this painting.

Watching a puffin resting quietly among the coastal grasses was a moment that stayed with me. I wanted to capture not only its striking colours but also the peaceful atmosphere of Iceland's rugged coastline.

A fascinating fact about Atlantic puffins is that they spend most of their lives at sea, returning to land only for a few months each year during the nesting season. This brief time ashore makes every sighting feel even more special.

This painting is inspired from adventure, patience, and the unforgettable experience of encountering one of nature's most iconic seabirds in the wild.
